This month marks one year since construction began on the site of the City of Greer's new hub for recreation and community connection, and this week has been a big one.

Hardwood Deliveries

Suppliers delivered trucks stacked with hardwood pallets to the site of the Prisma Health Performance Center. The wood needs to sit inside the space for a couple of weeks to acclimate to the temperature and moisture level and prevent it from shrinking or expanding after installation.

The wood delivery is a big milestone for the project. The facility's large gym will have eight basketball courts that convert into 16 volleyball courts. The champions arena will also have a hardwood court for basketball and volleyball. Contractors expect to begin the floor installation by the middle of November.

Sports Equipment Going Up

The past couple of weeks, crews have been busy installing basketball goals and volleyball nets. With each new addition, the vision for the 200,000 square foot facility comes into focus. The large number of courts will allow the city to revive its youth basketball program and begin offering new and expanded opportunities that simply weren't possible when the city had one small gym to serve a rapidly growing population.

Plaza Taking Shape

Another big sign of progress on site is in the plaza area. Crews have put up walls and have begun installing the stairs that lead up to it. The main entrance to the lobby will be under the covered plaza, which will also be a great gathering spot for groups meeting for events and activities at the performance center.

Still on Track

Construction on the facility is still on track for a grand opening in early 2027. The event calendar is already filling up. Visit the Prisma Health Performance Center website to learn more about available rental space for community events, memberships, and other amenities.

Four Projects ForGreer

The performance center is one of four capital projects in the ForGreer initiative designed to meet the recreation and public safety needs of the city's growing population. The initiative also includes a new training center for police, fire, and emergency medical teams. The city hosted a grand opening for that facility last month. The final two projects in the ForGreer initiative are a new fire station in the northern part of the city and a downtown parking solution.
