The City of Greer is trying to make its streets safer for everyone, and you can be a part of the solution.

Action Plan

The city is working with consultants to develop a Transportation Safety Action Plan to help eliminate serious-injury and deadly crashes. The plan will cover walkers, bikers, drivers, and riders, and it will give recommendations for what the city can do to make its roads safer.

Consultants at Bolton & Menk have gathered information for a safety analysis of Greer. The group has outlined those findings along with its recommendations on a website for the city's Transportation Safety Action Plan. The site breaks down the number of crashes that have occurred in Greer, what kind of injuries have been reported, and the manner of those wrecks (rear end, angle, head on, etc.).

The Greer analysis shares some interesting statistics on crashes in the city and recommends some ways to mitigate the problems that may have led to them. Here are some highlights:

  • 44% of dangerous crashes in Greer are angle crashes

  • 28% of dangerous crashes in Greer are lane departure crashes

  • 13% of dangerous crashes in Greer are rear end crashes

Interactive Website

The website has some interactive features including a map that shows crashes that involved bikers or pedestrians.

The analysis of Greer points out a small number of roads on which a large percentage of crashes occur. The study even breaks down the crashes that happen on those roads by type of wreck and identifies some recommended priority projects to make Greer's roads safer.

You can see the findings for yourself online and share your thoughts and experience at an upcoming Transportation Safety Open House.

Upcoming Open House

The City of Greer's Transportation Safety Open House is coming up later this month on the second floor of Greer City Hall. The public is encouraged to attend.
