Blue Ridge Grad Coming Home
The body of a police officer killed in the line of duty in Las Vegas will return to the Upstate this week to be laid to rest. Austin Abdelnabi was a Marine Corps veteran who graduated from Blue Ridge High School and Clemson University.
Fallen Officer Memorial Tournament
Teams of first responders will gather at Century Park at 3605 Brushy Creek Road this weekend to honor officers killed in the line of duty. The 15th annual Upstate South Carolina Law Enforcement Memorial softball tournament kicks off at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday and runs through the weekend. All money raised from donations and the sale of t-shirts, raffle tickets, and concessions will support the families of fallen officers. The event is hosted in partnership with Gallagher's Heroes: Fallen Officer Fund.

Milestone ForGreer
The largest ForGreer project hits a big milestone in August. Harper General Contractors has been working on the site of the Prisma Health Performance Center for 12 months now.
The city's new recreation facility is under construction on 26 acres at 1529 S. Highway 14 in Greer. The center will host the city's indoor recreation programs including basketball, volleyball, and wrestling. The Prisma Health Performance Center will also have an event rental space, a cafe, and an indoor walking track.
The City of Greer announced Prisma Health as the naming rights sponsor of the facility at an event on August 4. Construction is still on track to open the center in early 2027.
People of the River Event
On Saturday, August 22, the Edward R. Driggers Center for the Arts is hosting a cultural immersion event featuring drumming, storytelling, traditional dance, and demonstrations by the Catawba Nation. The free, interactive event will be an engaging way to learn about the People of the River.

Sesquicentennial Celebration
Mark your calendars for a free outdoor concert celebrating 150 years of Greer. Sweet Soul will get you on your feet and dancing at Greer150: Greer Station Groove on Saturday, August 29 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m.

Railfest Returns
Annual family favorite, Railfest, will pull into the station next month. The free event celebrates a driving force in the City of Greer's history and growth. Climb aboard for Railfest on September 26 from 10:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in Greer City Park.
