This week’s GreerView includes a ForGreer construction milestone, a behind-the-scenes look at the city’s first trail project, and info on the next sesquicentennial event.
ForGreer Project Update
Construction of the new Greer Sports & Events Center has hit another milestone.
Crews have begun paving the parking lot on the S. Buncombe side of the 26-acre property off S. Highway 14. If all goes to plan, exterior painting on the facility will begin this week.
The construction is on track for a grand opening in early 2027.
South Tyger River Greenway
Boardwalk installation is coming along this summer on the South Tyger River Greenway Trail. Phase 1A of the trail will begin at Country Club Park at 2501 Country Club Road. This section of the trail is 0.7 miles long and 12 feet wide and consists of concrete, boardwalks, and natural surfacing. This phase of the trail will have two scenic overlooks.
Tree clearing along the trail path began in February 2026, and workers began pouring concrete in April. Construction should be complete by fall 2026. Future phases will connect the trail to Greer High School, Cypress Landing, and Greer Golf.

The trail is not safe for visitors yet, but we hope to open it by fall.
Greer150 Mural Update
Artist Adam Schrimmer of Blank Canvas Mural Company has been working on the city's sesquicentennial mural for weeks in the summer heat.
The mural is on the side of the old Davenport building at Trade and Randall Streets. The design is inspired by a photo of Trade Street from 1938.

On Sunday, you can cast your vote in the annual Peach Cook-off to support the Greer Farmers Market.
Taste tickets are $1 per sample, and you can get your fill of sweet or savory and pro-baking or down home cooking at Greer City Park from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m.
