We'll post updates on trash collection in the City of Greer on this page as the week progresses. Our sanitation contractor, Meridian Waste, will have to make daily decisions about pickup based on road conditions which might hamper collection in some neighborhoods.
Thursday, 5:30 p.m. Update
Meridian Waste says the goal is still to collect all of this week's trash routes by the end of the day tomorrow.
Thursday: Completed 85 percent of Thursday pickups
Friday pickups: The remaining Thursday routes and all of Friday's routes
Exceptions: There were a few streets that still had too much ice on them to safely navigate today:
King Hill St. & Stewards Way in Stillwater
Abner Creek from Brockman McClimon Rd. to Liberty Hill
Liberty Hill Rd.
Reminder: This is a fluid situation based upon road conditions. We'll keep you posted if anything changes.
Wednesday, 5:00 p.m. Update
The city’s trash collection contractor is planning to double up on routes the rest of the week in an attempt to reach all customers before another round of winter weather hits us over the weekend.
Here’s the plan:
Thursday: Collect Wednesday customers and as many Thursday customers as possible.
Friday: Collect any remaining Thursday households and all “normal” Friday routes.
Our streets team helped clear the roads so that drivers could get to the Monday and Tuesday folks we had to skip earlier in the week due to icy conditions.
Please be patient and check back with us. We’ll update you if we have to move to “Plan B.”
Wednesday, 10:45 a.m. Update
Tuesday trash routes are being collected now. Drivers will circle back and try to pick up any Monday routes that weren't collected yesterday due to road conditions. Our streets team is trying to help them out by assessing and treating neighborhood roads where they can.
We'll keep you posted on the schedule for the rest of the week.
Tuesday, 8:50 p.m. update:
Meridian Waste will pick up Tuesday trash routes on Wednesday. They'll also attempt to pick up the remaining Monday customers if the streets are safe enough for their trucks to navigate. We'll keep you posted on the schedule for the rest of the week. Thanks for your patience.
Tuesday afternoon update:
We'll post more information later today so folks can plan for Wednesday. However, here's some good news:
Meridian Waste tells us so far today, they have been able to collect most of Monday's pickup routes. Here are some trouble spots that might experience further delays:
Mountain View Ave.
Tremont Ave.
Canteen Ave.
Sherman St.
Fuller St.
McKissick St.
Meridian will provide another update at the end of today (Tuesday), but they are optimistic about their prospects for pickup on Wednesday.
Stay tuned.
Monday, January 26 Update:
Trash collection will resume in the City of Greer Tuesday morning, but please be patient.
Crews will begin collecting Monday’s route after 9 a.m. on Tuesday morning. When drivers canvassed the city today, they noted a few streets that are still not clear enough for their trucks to safely navigate.
We’ll bring you an update tomorrow, so you know what the trash plan is for the next few days.
Bottom line: If you receive City of Greer trash services and your scheduled pickup day is Monday, go ahead and put out your carts tonight. If the team can get to you tomorrow, they will. If they can’t, they’ll try again on Wednesday.
Thanks for being patient and considerate of the safety of the drivers and their team members.
