Stormwater Management Program

The City of Greer’s Stormwater Management Program focuses on reducing pollutants in stormwater runoff through preventive and corrective measures. The program's mission is to limit pollution exposure to stormwater, decrease runoff, and mitigate the impact of pollutants on water quality.

The Stormwater Management Program addresses six key measures aimed at protecting and improving water quality:

  • Controlling stormwater runoff from construction sites

  • Detecting and eliminating illicit discharges

  • Preventing pollution through good housekeeping practices for municipal operations

  • Managing stormwater post-construction for new and redeveloped areas

  • Educating and involving the public

  • Encouraging public participation

The city actively engages the community through public education and outreach efforts, including Lake Robinson Day, and encourages community involvement through initiatives like Adopt-a-Highway and Adopt-a-Stream. These programs aim to reduce litter and debris, monitor water quality, and build community partnerships to protect local waterways. Volunteers in the Adopt-a-Stream program can become certified and contribute valuable data to safeguard the health of Greer’s rivers and streams.

The city also promotes responsible practices for households, construction sites, commercial properties, and industrial areas to address pollutants like hazardous waste, sediment, and chemicals. The program combines education, policies, and enforcement to enhance water quality and protect the environment for the future.
